Getting started
What Homefield is, who it is for, and how the first day goes.
About Homefield
What is Homefield?
Homefield is a practice app for kids 8 to 16 in the United States. Every sport in the catalog is first-class. Day one is the same for every sport: a week, protected rest, a timer, and a log in your own words. Deeper coaching and measurement unlock per sport when the work is filmed, reviewed and measured.
Who is Homefield for?
A parent and their child, in the United States. The parent holds the account. Children do not sign up, do not sign in on their own, and do not have their own login; they use the app under an account an adult created and controls.
Which sports can my child practise?
Every sport in the catalog, and each one gets the same day one: a week built for your child's age, a protected rest day, a session timer, a drill list and a log. The full list is on the sports page of this site. Guided plans and filmed tryouts arrive sport by sport, but no sport is held back from practice while they do.
First steps
How do I get started?
Install the app and sign in as the parent. Give consent, then add your player: a first name, an age and their sports. You can choose a plan there or skip that step and choose later. The app then shows "Your family's week" once, so you can shape the week, and opens on Today.
Finding your way
What are Practice, Journey and Parent?
They are the three tabs, in that order. Practice holds Today: the day's session, the week strip and the timer. Journey shows the plan and where you are in it. Parent holds your family's settings, game days and the account. The app always opens on Today.
Should my child use the phone on their own?
That depends on age. For children 8 to 11, a parent runs the app and the child sees Today and the timer. Children 12 to 16 may run Today themselves. At every age the parent owns consent, the roster, sharing and deletion, whoever is holding the phone.
Where do I find how a screen works?
Look for the "?" at the top of the screen. It opens a short explanation of that screen, either as its own page or as a small card.
Plans and the week
The three plan types, how long a plan runs, rest days, and what restarts a plan.
Choosing a plan
What plans are there?
Three. A 6-week plan is one block that ends with a level-up. A 12-week plan is two blocks with a checkpoint between them, and the second block is rebuilt around what the checkpoint finds. A Custom plan lets you put as many sports as you want into one week; each sport keeps its own level and content, and a Custom plan schedules no tryout.
Why is my plan longer than six weeks on the calendar?
A 6-week plan is six weeks of each sport's content. With one sport that is six weeks. With three sports it is eighteen weeks on the calendar, because the sports share the week. The plan picker shows both numbers before you choose. Custom plans show no length, because you decide how long they run.
How many sports can my child do at once?
When you add sports, the app first asks whether you want a Homefield plan or a Custom plan. A Homefield plan takes up to three sports, because past three a generated week can no longer keep its rest. A Custom plan takes as many as you like.
Do I have to choose a plan when I add my child?
No. You can skip that step and go straight to Today. Nothing is chosen for you when you skip; you can pick a plan later from the Journey tab.
Rest
Can the app take away a rest day?
No. Nothing automatic in Homefield can remove a rest day. When the week has too much in it, the app shortens sessions, then drops optional blocks, then drops a training day, and never touches rest. Rest changes only when you change it.
Can I move or skip a rest day?
Yes, it is your call. From the rest day itself you can train today instead and move the rest to a day within the next six. You can also mark any day as rest, or set a seven-day week. The age limits on how much work a session holds do not change when you do.
Does a higher level mean more work for a young child?
No. Each age has workload limits, and they come before the level. A higher level brings harder work, never more volume than the age allows. When your child plays several sports, they share one weekly workload limit.
Changing a plan
What happens if I add or remove a sport mid-plan?
Adding or removing a sport, switching between 6 and 12 weeks, or changing the plan restarts the plan from week 1, and the app asks you to confirm first. Game days, closed days, moving rest, days per week, the badge and sharing never restart a plan.
Tryouts
What a tryout is, when it comes up, what skipping does, and what is scored.
About tryouts
What is a tryout?
A short check where you film your child doing a few set movements with your phone. It is offered only for sports that have a tryout written for them. For other sports the app says so plainly, and drills are logged by hand.
When they happen
When do tryouts happen?
A plan can have three: a baseline before day one, a checkpoint at week 6 of a 12-week plan, and an exit tryout on the last day. In between, a check comes up after two weeks of that sport's own completed practice days. The family films one check at a time, oldest first. Custom plans schedule no tryout.
I just added a sport. When is its first tryout?
If the sport has a tryout, its first check waits on Today for seven days from the day you added the sport. Take it any time in that week. If the week passes, it closes on its own and records nothing, and the regular two-weeks-of-practice rhythm carries on.
How do I know a tryout is due?
The week strip marks that day with the word "Tryout". On that day a card sits above the session on Today with Start tryout and Skip to tomorrow.
Skipping
What if we skip a tryout?
Every tryout can be skipped, and practice is never held for one. Skip to tomorrow moves the check to the next day and records nothing. If you skip the exit tryout, completing the plan still advances the level; it is labelled "logged by family" instead of "measured by tryout".
Results
Is every session scored?
No. Only tryouts are measured. A practice session never opens the camera, and levels count finished plan work, not skill. Anything you log by hand is labelled as logged by the family and never feeds a measured result.
Will I see a score after a tryout?
A result is shown only for sports whose scoring has been checked and switched on, only in words, and only after five takes. There are no numbers out of 100 and no rankings. For other sports the tryout is filmed and logged without a result, and a first check never shows one.
Practice and logging
Today's session, team practice, game days, days off and notes.
Today
What is on Today?
Today is filled in for you: the day's session built from your sport's drills, with a timer. For a sport without a guided plan yet, you keep your own drill list and log it the same way.
Other kinds of day
My child has team practice today. What do I do?
Mark the day as Team practice. It counts toward the week's workload, and Homefield does not add drills the team did not run.
How do I log a game?
Mark the day as Game day. You can record the opponent, the result and the score. A game counts toward the week's workload, there is no Homefield session that day, and past games are listed under Game days in the Parent tab.
My child is sick. How do I skip today?
Choose Not today and pick a reason: Hurt, Sick, Heat, Coach said rest, or Other. That closes the day. Nothing is counted against it and no streak is lost. A rest day is different: it means rest was the plan.
Notes
Can I add a note to a session?
Yes. A note can hold a few tapped labels, how your child said the session felt, and up to 280 characters you type. All of it is optional. The app checks that an adult is holding the phone before the typing box opens.
Progress
What does my child's level mean?
A level counts finished plan work. It is not a grade of how good your child is. It goes up when a plan is completed, whether or not a tryout was taken.
Player Card and sharing
What the Player Card shows, and how sharing works.
The card
What is on the Player Card?
Your child's badge and first name, the sports they are active in, how many games have been logged, and when the last tryout was filmed. A fact that has not happened yet is left off. There is no level, no score and no rating on it.
What is the badge?
Instead of a photo, each child has a badge: a simple mark such as a star, a fox or an owl, or a sport pose. The star is the default, and you can change it with Change badge in your child's family settings.
Sharing
Is the card shared anywhere?
Not unless you choose to. Sharing is off until the parent who holds the account turns on Allow sharing cards in Parent settings. Even then nothing is sent automatically: you send the card yourself, and you can turn sharing off again at any time.
Is my child compared with other children?
No. There are no public profiles, no leaderboards outside your family, and no comparison between siblings anywhere in the app.
Can a second guardian send the card?
No. Only the parent who set up the account can send the card or change sharing, because sharing sits with the consent.
Family and guardians
A second guardian, more than one child, and removing a child.
Second guardian
Can my child's other parent use Homefield too?
Yes. Invite them from Parent settings, under Second guardian. They sign in as themselves and see the same family: every child, their week, sessions and cards. They can log practice, write notes, change the week, add a sport and add a child. There is one second guardian at a time.
What can only the account holder do?
Consent stays with the parent who set up the account. Only they can give or withdraw consent, change what the account shares, change the phone number on it, invite or remove a guardian, or delete the account. One adult stands behind a child's consent so the record can say what was agreed and when.
Do both our phones show the same week?
Yes. The family's week syncs across both guardians' phones, so a session logged on one shows on the other.
Children
Can I add more than one child?
Yes. Each child has their own week, sports and card. Homefield never compares siblings.
What happens if I remove a child?
Removing a child erases that child's week, sessions, logs and cards. It cannot be undone. Either guardian can do it, and the app records which adult did.
Privacy and safety
Consent, what is kept and for how long, and how to download or delete your data.
Consent
Who gives consent for my child's data?
You do, as the parent who holds the account. Consent is asked for before any child data is collected, and signing in is not consent: it is a separate step. A child account is never the one that gives consent. Homefield treats everyone under 18 as a child.
Can I withdraw consent?
Yes, at any time, in Parent settings. We stop collecting anything new about your child straight away, and you can then delete what already exists.
What we never do
Are there ads or trackers in the app?
No. There are no ad SDKs and no third-party analytics. Crash reports are our own and carry only error codes, never a message, a name or anything about your child. We do not sell personal information.
What we keep
How long do you keep practice video?
Raw video is deleted within about six months, by a storage rule on the bucket itself, so it happens without anyone having to remember. The still picture and short preview made from each clip are kept while your child is enrolled. Measurements, session logs and game results are kept until you delete them.
Who can see my child's data?
Your family, and nobody else unless you turn sharing on. Data is stored in the United States with our cloud provider, who may not use it for their own purposes.
Your data
Can I download my child's data?
Yes. In your child's family settings, use the Download button that carries your child's name. It saves a file on your phone with what your family did: sessions, logs and notes in your own words. It carries no score or rating.
How do I delete our account?
In Parent settings, choose Delete account and all children's data. No email or support ticket is needed. If you cannot sign in any more, the delete page on this site starts the same deletion: a person reads it within three days and completes it within thirty.
Account and billing
What Homefield costs, signing in, phones, and getting in touch.
Cost
What does Homefield cost?
Nothing, for every family, right now. There is no paywall, no trial clock and nothing to cancel, and you are never asked for payment details.
Will you start charging without telling me?
No. Paid features would only come with a price you can see, a trial clock you can see and a way to cancel, all together. None of that exists today, so nothing can be charged.
Signing in
How do I sign in?
With Apple, Google or a phone number. Your account is a parent account; your child is added inside it after consent.
Which phones does Homefield run on?
iPhone and Android phones, from the United States app stores. On Apple devices it is built for iPhone, not iPad.
Getting in touch
How will I know when something needs doing?
Today shows it: a tryout that is due, a first check that is open, and the day's session. Open the app on Today and anything waiting is at the top.
How do I contact you?
Message us from the app: Parent, then Help & support. A person reads and answers them. For a question about your child's data, you can also write to privacy@homefieldcoach.com.
Still stuck?
Message us from the app (Parent → Help & support). A person reads and answers every message.
For a question about your child’s data, you can also read the privacy policy or delete your account and data.
